As the City of Angels prepares to step up, can the Paralympic Movement receive unparalleled acknowledgement and backing as compared to before?
The northeast city of Los Angeles in the United States has decided to host the 2028 Paralympic Games which has raised countrywide debate as to whether this would be the game changer for the Paralympics in America. The City of Angels has a good chance of offering the paralympic movement the attention it deserves because it is used to diverse and innovative ideas.
Paralympics games have been attracting more acceptance and recognition with each coming year, however, in the USA, they have not gotten as much popularity as the Olympic games with respect to media coverage, sponsorship and general public recognition. Still, the Los Angeles 2028 Games come as a good chance to help rectify this situation. With the unique population of the city and its fast, entertaining industry the paralympics could be marketed like they have never been.
“Los Angeles is the center of the universe in terms of storyteller and activism,” Maria Lopez, a spokesperson for the procurative Committee explained. “We have the ability to promote not only the athletes as contenders, We have the possibility to promote them as influencers and who many people will look up to.”
With several stars coming forward, the use of Hollywood celebrities and influencers for the promotion of Paralympics games is already in progress. This in part is a method to attract the public’s and media’s interest towards the games making them more popular and raising the cost of plans for the Paralympics.
In addition, the way of viewing the events is also going to be improved here as well through the new technologies and new ways of broadcasting. New broadcast plans and new coverage structures are aimed at attracting more viewers to the Paralympics, increasing the potential audience of millions.
The narrative is complemented by recent developments in local infrastructure such as the construction of wheelchair accessible facilities and improved transport options in the Los Angeles area. It is not just the athletes who gain from such improvements but it raises the bar for future organizing cities that it is possible to achieve both a good level of availability and quality.
With the clock inching closer to Los Angeles 2028, the Paralympics has never been so close to a momentous moment in history. If the city makes the most of its unique structures and spirit of acceptance and embracing, the 2028 Games could very well be the tipping point when more-than-just-‘cold-island’ America finally embraces the Paralympics and the ideology.
For tonight, all of Los Angeles’ attention is focused on how the city can play a leading role in promoting the event of future Paralympic Games.
