LaQuan Smith, the designer commonly known as a creator of extravagant haute couture, changed his usual style this season during New York Fashion Week by presenting a more comfortable collection, called “Lucid Dream.” The presentation, organized at the elegant Cipriani, was still a reflection of within ornamentation which is bold and sophisticated of Smith but a greater part of it was honed in comfort.
The “Lucid Dream” collection was undoubtedly one of the most inspiring and innovative pieces and came as the most pleasant surprise of the god of fashion. Instead of glorious forms and tight styles, he used gentle fabrics, soft shapes, and calm pale and dark colors. The looks used shape, oversize knitwear, padded faux fur jackets, and wide-leg pants which were well suited for doing some high-end lounging. In as much as there was a slight change in the tone, the blends still had the luxuriant finish that fans have come to expect from the designer.
Another particularly eye-catching one consisted of a chicoing furry coat and a delicate pearlescent sheer bodysuit underneath, uniting seductive charm with user-friendliness. Smith was probably the only designer who was able to find the balance between glamor and wearability making this collection one of the most practical from his collections. As well as satin slip dresses, and fitted jackets there were detailed lace designs recalling the constant of the background regarding evening dresses satisfying even the red carpet and the stylish home party.
Fashion reviewers, and domestic and international influencers, did not spare their praise for Smith’s transformations, as well as the attempts to experiment with the brand. “It’s still LaQuan. but it has the Original Laquan in the room. It is softer and much warmer. It is the current era. I think so,” said one at the conference.
