James Mangold was particularly wary of reducing the portrayal of Bob Dylan in his movie “A Complete Unknown” to simplicity. Instead of telling the audience about Dylan as a comprehensible character with an understandable past, Mangold shows his life’s haziness. He also stressed that Dylan has struggled not to be just interpreted or put into a particular story box for most of his career.
