The director responsible for Walk the Line and Ford v Ferrari stated that ‘A Complete Unknown’ is not a biographical movie about Bob Dylan but rather an ensemble focused on Dylan’s personas.During the interviews, Mangold painted the film’s narrative as Dylan’s rising from being an artist trapped in his birthplace to growing to stardom, then to failure, and finally getting a comeback, which Dylan also related to when they were filming.
James Mangold was particularly wary of reducing the portrayal of Bob Dylan in his movie “A Complete Unknown” to simplicity.
