Actor Johnny Depp recently arrived in Italy for the screening of his new directorial project, ‘Modi: “Three Days on the Wing of Madness’ premiered at the Rome Film Festival. As reported in The Hollywood Reporter, he still managed to present his movie and even picked up an award before leaving the next morning. Famous for his checkered, decades-long career in Hollywood, Depp is going through what might be one of the most successful phases in his career, especially in Europe, despite his public defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard.

The true comeback started at last year’s Cannes Film Festival when he appeared in ‘Jeanne du Barry,’ directed by Maiwenn.‘Modi,’ which was shown for the first time at the San Sebastian Film Festival last month, is a tale of Modigliani based on his life as an Italian artist during the three vulnerable days in Paris in 1916. Earlier this year, during a sit-down interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Depp talked about his bond with the artist named in the picture and his history of addiction.

During the interview, Depp revealed that Al Pacino came up with the idea of the movie ‘Modi’ for Depp in 1997, but Pacino planned to direct the movie at that time. “Al was going to direct it at the time… then it sort of vanished,” Depp said. Over two decades later, the project has now materialized into reality. Recalling his journey to direction, Depp recalled his first time with ‘The Brave,’ which didn’t meet kind words. “It made me understand… you learn from that,” he said in the interview with the Hollywood Reporter. He then choked on the words when asked whether he used Modigliani as a model in his erratic life of debauchery and emotional disorder: “He is the antithesis of me.” I adore rejection.”  But he admitted one component of the Fiend: determination and authenticity; he said he agreed because he stayed firm-headed with his specific approach.

He compared his experiences in the past few years to a “vast wilderness” and stressed that struggle brings one change, “That vast wilderness taught me a whole lot.”Finally, in an interview when he was perhaps more thoughtful than he often is off-camera, Depp summed up his career journey and his life’s roller-coaster ride as a “Soap Opera.” He added, “I learned, man. All that I undergo… you pick something somewhere in your learning process. Therefore, I don’t have any bitter feelings toward any person.”

Depp expressed a sense of liberation regarding his relationship with Hollywood: I had a few tussles with Hollywood… Getting in there and whipping it around a little bit became necessary.”He also addressed some difficulties that he has had but remained strictly honest to his parts. “It’s nice to embody a role…. some of that can be deployed as potential Stimulus,” he said.
