R&B artist, Ari Lennox has been in the news lately after accusing the ex- Xscape member Tameka “Tiny” Harris for allegedly making a ‘shady’ remark on the singer’s vocal ability. The controversy started when Harris made a casual remark which she supposed would not offend anyone in a recent interview, ‘Lennox’s voice is powerful yet she cannot hit the same notes like some of her coworkers.’ A professional comment that offered no fear to hostility did not please Lennox, who very quickly responded to the situation at hand.
Sharing her grievances on social media, Lennox publicly labeled Harris as a ‘shady pest’ and reproached her statement; “Why does it need to be said anyway?” Lennox said, still displeased with the unnecessary attack on women, “Why can’t women just help and support other women in this business?” Although she is famed for her sultry voice, the Grammy nominee said, “It is not by singing impossible highs like a jumping jack that I will show off my worth in this universe; there is enough of it said through music.”
In no time, both artists’ followers took a stand, some in defense of Lennox’s right to have her say, while some defended Harris saying that the statement was not aimed at slander. Owen, who has paid his dues in the R&B scene, has not responded directly to Lennox’s words but those close to the Xscape singer say that the statement was probably misinterpreted.
Lennox, however, does not let the drama in her life affect her plans. Reid is basking in a new album and of recent she has toured, receiving good reviews for her voice and artistry. Harris, on the other hand, is occupied with the ongoing Xscape tour as well as other business commitments.
As popular as celebrity squabbles have been, including the current spat between Lennox and Harris, which shared the topic of rivalry in the music business, particularly among women, this one seems to have raised concern. Whether this discord is going to end up with some sort of settlement or would cause even more strain is yet to be known. As ever, the audiences will catch every move, as it always is.
