One of America’s finest singers and actors, who is featured mostly in the genres of R&B and soul, is probably best known for her portrayal of Cinderella in the 1997 musical movie starring Whitney Houston. In The Front Room, she is the protagonist of a more sadistic fairy tale.
Norwood has experience in horror movies, most notably in the film I Still Know What You Did Last Summer in 1998. She said that coming in for this new crude, gross on-camera film was not an easy decision to make.
“I was terribly scared to take up the role,” She testified, “it is so different from anything I’ve ever done!” “I wasn’t sure I could carry it off – but that is why I wanted to do it even more: I wanted to see if I could take it up a notch. ” The writers got me through Hunter and through that character because it leaped off the page. “The latter is what happens when you read good writing; you get a sense of and a vision in the first instance, so the characters are always out there floating about, which is why you have it within you to grab them.
Interviews carried out by Hunter with directors and twin brothers Sam and Max Eggers helped the latter create stories about their grandfather that made the character of Solange feel more realistic. Hunter and Norwood actually had a week of preparation for shooting the scene, in which Norwood said that she got nervous. Norwood hopes the audience feels all the emotions that are presented to them onscreen — from horror to comedy — and root for Belinda, too.
By reimagining some of her cherished previous works, Norwood has been enjoying a career comeback in 2024. She appears with Monica, with whom she co-wrote the original 1998 song on the remix and in the music video for ‘The Boy Is Mine‘ by Arianna Grande. She also played Cinderella again in the film ‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’.
