Blake Griffin and ‘Black-ish’ Creator Kenya Barris to Remake ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ 2.0

The much-acclaimed American sports comedy White Men Can’t Jump that was released in 1992 is all set to return, and NBA player Blake Griffin alongside Kenya Barris, the creator of Blackish is here to help. This new remake is sure to please fans who loved the original as it focuses on two con men who play basketball for a living and focuses on their exploits which were played by Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes in the original.

Kenya Barris – whose work on Blackish and Grown-ish has gained him critical acclaim – will be one of the production houses for the film under Khalabo Ink Society. Additionally, Barris will also be one of the screenplay writers in a quest to make all humor, heart and culture that made the original great. at six times being in All Stars, an NBA player, Blake Griffin is partnering with Ryan Kalil under the banner Mortal Media to produce while using his expertise of basketball in the project.

The 1992 movie White Men Can’t Jump was more than just a sports-comedy: it tackled complicated relationships, race, and societal issues like a friendship parasite. Harrelson and Snipes had an amazing chemistry, and this film is still appreciated by the audience thirty years after it has been released. Barris and Griffin being in charge of those expectations, there is strong confidence that the remake will come out fresh and contemporary while maintaining the humor and essence of the original.

Though there have been no official casting announcements, fans are speculating who will be cast alongside Billy Hoyle (whose character originally featured Harrelson) and Sidney Deane (who was portrayed by Snipes). There should be a fresh angle regarding the sport of basketball and race relations and more so the hustle in the age of media of the film.

Now as production has started, Griffin and Barris are vowing to respect the original’s core yet bring it more in tune with modern-day nail polish brush. The remake of White Men Can’t Jump is in such a way that both the old movie’s fans and the new targets are going to be satisfied.
