Following his breakout performance in the portrayal of Erik Menendez in the TV movie Monsters: Cooper Koch of The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, he is looking to venture into new territory. On 19th October 2024, during the celebration of the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles, Koch said that he desired to be part of the movie and particularly to portray the leading character of Patrick Bateman in the new film based on the book American Psycho.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter recently, Koch said, “Luca’s doing American Psycho, so I think I can do Patrick Bateman.” This is the climax of Koch’s career because he admitted that he never simulated a serial killer on camera. “Maybe I can do it,” he mused after saying he wanted to take on more challenging and dramatic projects. The novel that has been adapted for Hollywood as a direct continuation of the 2000 film starring Christian Bale as the slim investment banker and serial killer, Patrick Bateman, is Bret Easton Ellis’s best-selling American Psycho, published in 1991 — although it will be presented with a new vision rather than a mainstream remake.
The book by author Bret Easton Ellis in 1991 was purchased for the Italian director Luca Guadagnino. The actor, who has been praised for his work in the series Monsters and the horror film They/Them, stated that after portraying Erik Menendez, his career has not been stagnant. When asked about the current status, the actor replied, ‘Things are coming in, things are moving, things are happening, taking meetings, and the needle is threading, so we’ll see,’ he added further about new ventures on the anvil.
Of course, this is all speculative, but Koch’s attention towards Bateman and a rising career is encouraging. In the interview, he immediately replied that among all the releases this year, he liked Challengers by Luca Guadagnino, starring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist.
