Tua Tagovailoa, the starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins, left Thursday’s game against the Buffalo Bills after suffering a concussion. Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills was trying to slide to the ground when Tagovailoa struck him head-first during the third-quarter fourth-down run. Tagovailoa’s teammates signaled for trainers as he fell on the field before he was able to get up and leave.
As reported by Amazon’s Kaylee Hartung, Tagovailoa’s wife and two children greeted him in the Dolphins’ locker room. “We’re told he’s conscious, awake and alert, just as he was walking off this field on his power,” said Hartung in the broadcast post the game that the Bills won, 31-10. “We are also told he has reached total mobility in his arms and legs. ”
McDaniel said postgame. More than anything else, I do not know what the timeline is. We need to evaluate. Well, like other guys, I am just concerned for my teammates. We will get more details tomorrow and then use it as the day advances. ”
In his five seasons in the NFL, the first time that Tagovailoa played in every game for the Dolphins. He played 13 games in 2022, as he received two concussions in the course of the season. In the Thursday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals that season, Tagovailoa showed the fencing response after his head hit the ground on a sack, which was his first concussion. The concussion Tagovailoa sustained against the Bengals followed another incident in which the NFLPA thought he wasn’t correctly examined for a concussion four days prior in a game against the Bills.
Tagovailoa briefly departed that game due to an injury, which didn’t involve a concussion check. Later, the NFLPA fired the independent neurotrauma consultant who removed players next to a head injury from the field. The controversy produced a new concussion protocol for NFL players.
