Jason Momoa Confirms Major Role in Upcoming 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' Sequel

Jason Momoa, the heartbroken actor who starred in the DC Universe as Arthur Curry, confirmed taking a central role in the much-anticipated Aquaman sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. More adventures from this Atlantean hero were long overdue since the 2018 Aquaman film turned out to be an unprecedented blockbuster success. The first film was a worldwide smash hit as it grossed more than a billion dollars in all-around profit, and it got ranked among the most successful films DC ever had. The sequel looks set to carry on from where the first film left off, as Momoa is reprising his role as the titular character.

Aquaman The Lost Kingdom

Momoa was quoted a few times in regards to his excitement in going back into the underwater world of Atlantis. He believes he has a chance for deeper character development, as well as intense action sequences, and that the storyline expands on the mythos of Atlantis. He further stated explicitly that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will explore not just the Arthur Curry struggles with being the king of Atlantis but further investigate the intricacies of finding peace between the world above water and the world below.

Although the plot details remain undiscovered, many speculations have flown regarding what the sequel would be made of. One thing is for sure: Patrick Wilson is set to reprise his role as Arthur’s half brother and infamous Ocean Master, while Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will play his part once again in the sequel: that of the powerful foe Black Manta.

The biggest draw for the sequel has been the potential exploration of the Lost Kingdom—they spoke of a lost and ancient civilization, spoken of only briefly in the first film. Momoa has teased that instead of playing crucial roles in the plot, it changes the viewers’ perspectives on the Atlantean world. This is going to add a whole new element to the storyline and give an action-packed flavor to the scenes combined with marvelous visuals.

Aquaman director James Wan is on board to repeat his magic in the sequel. The same visionary approach that brought fans to the film in 2018 will be there again in the sequel, whose release date is expected next year. Wan has promised that the new film will raise the stakes with darker themes, more world-building than ever before, and even more spectacular battles underwater.

Coming out towards the latter part of 2024, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will no doubt prove to be another mammoth release for the DC Universe, as Jason Momoa’s confirmation of his important role has added a new amount of mounting excitement. The fans will look forward to the epic continuation of the Aquaman saga.
