Dirty, rude, and so clever: Hollywood veteran Jeff Goldblum has confirmed his days as Dr. Ian Malcolm, the charismatic mathematical genius of the ‘Jurassic Park‘ movies, is probably over. Before the series prepares for its relaunch with Jurassic World Rebirth, Goldblum talked to Total Film about his decision to let go of the character that made him popular.
The new movie, set to release in theaters globally in July 2025, stars Scarlet Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali. Ian Malcolm may have ruled into the sunset. Maybe. Because of this next one – my friend Scarlett Johansson and my new friend Jonathan Bailey from ‘Wicked’- they are taking up the reins. And I can not wait for them to do that. That seems rather reasonable to me,” Goldblum agreed. Initially, the American actor appeared in Steven Spielberg’s movie Jurassic Park as a Math expert and charming Dr. Ian Malcolm.
Later, he returns as the main character in The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997). Years later, he played the part again in the 2018 film Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and the 2022 film Jurassic World Dominion. Gareth Edwards, who directed Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and The Creator, directed Jurassic World Rebirth based on a David Koepp script. As an official outline describes, the film takes place five years after the “Jurassic World Dominion” action, and the planet’s environment is entirely unsuitable for dinosaurs. The remaining species are found strictly in isolated equatorial habitats with the kind of climate that used to prevail there.
The three most giant animals in that tropical habitat are the bearers of a drug that would be of immense lifesaving value to humanity,” it says. ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ will star Rupert Friend, Philippine Maia Velge, Bechir Sylvain, Ed Skrein’s Deadpool, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo’s Magnificent Seven.’
