Liam Hemsworth and Laura Dern’s Age-Gap Netflix Film Criticized on Social Media

Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth may soon have new praise for their upcoming film “Lonely Planet” with Netflix, but at present, that used to be not what the creators would have hoped for. As expected, the film, a romantic drama featuring Hemsworth aged 34 and Dern aged 56, has had its fair share of social media backlash due to the actors’ ages. The film is set in scenic locations including

The Last Kingdom and champions the portrayal of two travelers who meet each other and experience life changing adventures together. Although the film offers some of the pleasant scenes and some touching parts in the story, it has generated heated discussions, many viewers pointing out the controversial aspect of the actors’ ages and how this affected the film’s content. While pushing the age discrepancy between the actors aside, much younger men typically act with actresses who are older, making people express their disbelief when such films are played out.

Many people on Twitter have been speaking against this trend and many blogs have been published blaming this latest popular trend to age discrimination in general. For example, one Twitter user expressed her frustration, “Another movie where a younger man ‘falls in love’ with an older woman. Is Hollywood out of ideas? “. Others were petrified about such older and younger combinations especially in love stories.

It’s easy to dismiss the film as complete and utter rubbish; but some will argue why older women can’t be in love with younger men or what does that never get asked the other way around. All the facts indicate there are definitely some acceptable relationships between the characters in the film regardless of the age difference such as DG and Dickens. ‘This peculiar trend of people being upset over older women dating younger men has to stop,’ one supporter tweeted.

This allows us to focus attention on the issue raised by the audience — ageism that exists in societies across the globe. The film Lonely Planet is still some time away from its release, and it will be helpful to analyze whether this film attempts to challenge or consolidate the stereotypes that its cast adds to the discussion.

Moreover, regardless of this response, both of them remain two of the best actors in Hollywood, and everyone is keenly waiting to see their performances. On one hand, the situations of the film, if any, will provoke novel ways of analyzing subjects’ attitudes toward out of the ordinary types of love stories.
