Lynda Obst gave birth to several movie classics, but she died at age 74 in Los Angeles from COPD or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Obst lived most of her life in Hollywood and remained a significant figure in the organizational development of the film industry as a producer when there were few women involved in producing. Obst has seen the release of some classic films: Weetin’ 4, ‘Sleepless in Seattle,’ ‘Flashdance’ and ‘Adventures in Babysitting.’

Her final noteworthy project was filming the last feature film in 2014, Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar.’ Besides making films, Obst also produced several television series, among them being: These are ‘The Hot Zone,’ ‘Good Girls Revolt,’ ‘Hot in Cleveland’ and ‘Helix.’ Obst was one of Hollywood’s veteran producers who had been an Oscar nominee while still struggling to establish herself in a field that was dominated by male personalities. Lauren’s brother Rick Rosen, a partner at WME, was pleased to see her go because Obst pioneered the female domain in films.

Further, in an interview with ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ this year, Obst said she had COPD, a claim she has made in previous interviews as well. Obt started her journey in the movie industry as an editor for ‘The New York Times Magazine’ before she joined a production company. Her first production credit came for the independently produced Flashdance during her employment with Casablanca Records and FilmWorks.

At Paramount, Dawn Steele inspired Obst to create the first all-women production company with Debra Hill and then produced cars like ‘Adventures in Babysitting’ or ‘The Fisher King.’ It is interesting to know that she has worked with eminent script writer-director Nora Ephron and many other renowned directors and directors of this generation besides ‘This Is My Life’ and ‘Sleepless in Seattle.’ Despite this, Obst remained loyal to his quest and produced more good work in Characterizing her legacy in Hollywood. She was survived by her son Oly Obst, brothers Rick and Michael Rosen, and two grandchildren.
