Nicole Kidman is back with a psychological thriller Babygirl, whose intense first trailer co-starring Harris Dickinson keeps viewers on edge. The keen eyeful Marina Ashby directs the motion picture, which is set to be an intense tussle of relationships riddled with deception, control, and concealment.
In the trailer, Kidman takes on the role of Evelyn, a rich and mysterious woman who is drawn to Jack (Dickinson), a young man who has lived his life by the rules and in isolation. They meet and this is where things get complicated, for Jack is a very disciplined man who has maintained order in his chaotic life, until Evelyn comes in and shakes everything up. The combat is a violent psychological one that is self justified, thus degenerating into an even more wicked dimension than expected.
Harris Dickinson sure knows how to play men – and bloody well – as shown in Triangle of Sadness and The King’s Man where he traverses the complexity Maryff stabs. Jack: He’s dark, dependent – even dangerous – and chilling all at once, switching effortlessly from one extreme to another. This allows them to shine Kidman in Evelyn, unlike the character, whose story is not told, but whose effect is very much felt.
As usual, Nicole Kidman steals the show with her acting range and commanding magnetism. The struggle and tensions that will arise and grow between the two main characters will originate in Tina’s disobedience to Jack’s rules system. Apparently, that’s a fine line that Kidman is bound to walk again, but this time the victim-manipulator switch is reversed in this psychological thriller.
In the fast-paced trailer, the audience can actively appreciate the film’s unusually disturbing style in addition to wonderful music, which does useful scares. The film Babygirl seems to have many interesting issues and ideas surrounding, in particular, themes of power, insensitivity, and freedom.
On schedule for a release in spring 2024, Babygirl has been attracting attention even long before its release. Centering on some of the most talented attention-catchers like Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson, this movie is expected to be one of the highlights thriller films of the year.
