Rebel Wilson has confessed to temporarily using the infamous diabetes injection Ozempic as part of her weight loss efforts. Known for her roles in films such as Pitch Perfect, the Australian actress spoke candidly to me about the use of the injectable medication, which played a very small role in helping her on her path to losing weight.
Ozempic was developed to treat Type 2 diabetes but has recently become an increasingly popular skinny pill, as it suppresses appetite; off-label use for weight loss has caused controversy among physicians and the public. Despite these controversies, she does say that she “tried it” but ultimately did back off to return to more old-school remedies for keeping herself healthy.
The actress made it clear that her weight loss was mostly due to the changes in lifestyle. “I only used [Ozempic] for a really small period,” she says, “but to me, it was all about physical activity and adjusting my diet. That was the real game-changer.”
Through Ozempic, Wilson highlighted the pressures many are placed under in Hollywood regarding body image. The actress declared her “Year of Health” in 2020 during which she aimed to lose more than 80 pounds. Since then, she is an inspiration for many fans by talking about body positivity and health rather than looking a certain way.
While Ozempic is still a contentious topic, Wilson’s candor speaks for itself about the complexity of losing weight in public. Asked whether conscious decisions she made mattered to her health, she said: “There is no one-size-fits-all, but for me, the journey was about becoming the healthiest version of myself.”.
In the body image talk on health, sometimes extreme measures, Rebel Wilson continues candidly to modify that saga.
