Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger, who portray the twin emperors Geta and Caracalla in the sequel to Ridley Scott’s Gladiator, recently spoke about working on their exciting new villainous character for the film. During the promotional interview with Entertainment Weekly, both Hechinger and Quinn said that their roles’ loud and noisy characters made the director call them ‘the real loonies.’

To be more precise with the details, Quinn said that in playing the characters, he and Hechinger were virtually loud in their personalities, so their evening conversations would mimic the characters they portrayed. He told how they always appeared to be having the heaving and wailing that the characters portrayed in their screenplay relationship. Hechinger also laughed and noted this as just ‘how we are.’’ It just so happens that this is how their movie characters are, too. The two male actors who portrayed the roles of twin emperors who are spoilt and arrogant pointed out how a good time they had while on the show.

Quinn also complimented Hechinger for his brass decisions and contributions as an actor in delivering certain scenes with ‘precise’ talent, bravery, and daring. He said they desired their characters to love each other incredibly yet have faults in various ways—being selfish, clingy, and suffering from their sins. Hechinger agreed and explained the strategies they employed to design a robust individual figure for each emperor and the specific energy of their pair. The actors were not the only ones who felt this way; as General Marcus Acacius, I noted that Quinn and Hechinger did an excellent job developing their bad guys who, nonetheless, found humor in their misdeeds.

Pascal wrote that during the rehearsal, they were focused on funny moments; as characters, they looked like threats. Pascal recalled when both actors were in character fully ‘heaving and wailing’ in harmony, which, according to Pascal, was fun and dangerous simultaneously, a thing Pascal referred to as ‘cool.’  Gladiator II—a follow-up to the 2000 hit Gladiator—is set to premiere on November 15, and fans are eager to see how Quinn and Hechinger bring their twin emperor roles to life. Their blend of humor, intensity, and dynamic energy adds a fresh layer to the new film,  making their villains some of the most anticipated characters in the story.
