“Tyreek Hills’ speed at the time of his arrest by Miami police was 60 mph”

According to copies of the citations released Tuesday, the officer who pulled over Tyreek Hill estimated that the Miami Dolphins wide receiver was going about 20 miles per hour over the speed limit on route to Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.

After rolling down his window during the traffic stop at the request of an officer, Hill was forcibly removed from his vehicle by Miami-Dade police and placed in handcuffs for approximately fifteen minutes. He was given two traffic citations for irresponsible driving without wearing a seat belt, but he was not arrested.

According to the citations released by Miami-Dade police on Tuesday, police estimated that Hill’s McLaren 720S coupe was traveling about 60 mph before the stop. That road area has a 40 mph speed limit near Hard Rock Stadium.  Apart from providing the citations, the police department disclosed the name of the officer under investigation for his involvement in the interaction with Hill: Danny Torres, who has served for 27 years in the department. While the investigation is ongoing, Torres has been put on administrative leave.

In an email, a Miami-Dade police spokesperson stated that They would provide further information once it becomes available, pending the outcome of the investigation. 

In a statement earlier on Tuesday, the Torress lawyer demanded that his client be immediately reinstated. Several critics, including Hills agent Drew Rosenhaus, have stated that they think the officers who conducted the traffic stop ought to be fired.
